DCMS CUTS RED TAPE FOR COMMUNITY ARTS

Ministers have agreed to cut regulations and exempt community venues – including community centres, schools, village halls and hospitals – from licensing restrictions.

New exemptions on live music and cuts in paperwork for cultural organisations hosting live music or theatre events, will also be introduced, says the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Measures to deregulate plays, dance and indoor sport will be put to Parliament in the next few weeks, and ministers hope the measures will be in effect in by April 2013. DCMS says that the deregulation of live and recorded music and entertainment activities at community venues will be introduced to Parliament as soon as possible and will on measures for community film screenings later this year.
